This 3 years long EuropeAid/134863/C/ACT/MULTI project is lead by Italian NGO C.I.E.S. Onlus, in cooperation with partners from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary.

We work to raise awareness among EU citizens on development cooperation, EYD 2015 issues and critical understanding of interdependencies in the world – through online tools and social networks, teacher trainings, and educational materials. The project aims to increase capacity of CSOs for advocacy on development co-operation issues, and for more effective information and communication on ecological subjects at a EU level.

Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation organises 1 international conference in Estonia, participates in the preparation of educational kit, blended materials, teachers workshops, outdoor activities on development education.

Press releases

14.04.2016 - Do you know, what was the carbon footprint of your breakfast?

To introduce, how climate change and food production are interconnected, we organised “Climate breakfast” educational program for primary school children in Tartu .

The program contained of practical part or breakfast where kids tasted different organic and traditional agriculture products (milk, tomatoes, juice), fair trade and “traditional” chocolate, local organic products, and those that had arrived on the other side of the globe. After that, the children analyzed their choices and preferences and also our ecological footprint was examined.

Our expert Eeva explained taht agriculture is a huge emitter of greenhouse gases associated with climate change. We discussed with children how agriculture, food production, food transport and the waste created by consumption all have an impact on climate change (CO2 emission, water usage, usage of pesticides, pollution, deforestation etc.), while changes in climate also affect our food production (droughts, floods, extreme weather conditions influencing crop security etc.).
As consumers of food, we always have a choice regarding its impact on climate - we should keep this in mind when buying and consuming. When considering the effects of our food consumption on climate change, we can take 6 aspects into account: means of production (ecological or traditional), seasonality, packaging, consumption of meat (meat, vegetarian, vegan etc.), processing (raw, processed, on what extent) and distance (coming from far/close).

19.01.2016 - Today we organized workshop on "Climate Change and Agricultural Production" in Alatskivi Gymnasium, consisting of theoretical and practical parts.

Our expert explained how intensive agriculture and monoculture affects soil fertility and what are the agricultural production and climate change interrelations.
Workshop had also practical part - each child received five pots to plant different seeds - peas, beans, buckwheat, wheat, rye, barley. During two-month period children have a task to water each pot either with natural nutrient mixture (organic sea salt and seaweed solution), chemical fertilizer solutions or tap water; also to observe and photograph the plants growth. In the end of the research refractometer analysis will be used to measure plant sugars.

11.03.2015 - SAME World project kick off meeting; 11-13 March 2015 in Rome

"S.A.M.E." stands for sustainability, awareness, mobilization and environment and is a project of twelve organizations from ten European countries. The project contributes to raise awareness of the relations between the global North and South with a focus on environmental and climate justice and sustainable lifestyle.

What is a correlation between climate change and migration? What is climate justice? Who are climate refugees? As a part of the project, these and other questions will be discussed prior to schools. With workshops, summer camps and plays, twelve European organizations want to sensitize young people about the issues of climate justice in their countries. Networking and exchange of methods an
