October, 5. This week partners from Poland, Estonia, Finland and Ukraine gathered in Estonia for a meeting of our CBSS project, “Sustaining Communities and Ecosystems of the Baltic Sea Region"
On October 5, we started the meeting with a visit to the Tartu Nature House, where we explored its nature education activities and climate trail in the garden.
Next day we visited the Mehikoorma community NGO on the shores of Lake Peipsi, where local partners will introduced their community initiatives and shared their experiences of working for a more sustainable and resilient lakeside community.
We also had a roundtable together with Mustvee municipality and visited Peipsiland museum,
This CBSS funded project focuses on strengthening the resilience of coastal and lakeside communities by promoting climate action, safeguarding cultural heritage and protecting biodiversity in Poland, Estonia, Finland and Ukraine.
This summer, all project partners worked together with their local communities to develop and implement practical actions:
In Åland, Finland: a diving operation was held toclean up litter and trash from the Baltic Sea; in Mustvee Municipality, Estonia: the initiative focused on expanding an existing community garden with traditional heritage plants,
In Odesa an information session was organised, followed by a clean-up of waste and plastic debris in Kuyalnytskyi National Park.
In Poland: training sessions were organised and protective equipment was purchased to strengthen preparedness for rescue operations in coastal areas.
Our project partners are Development Policy Foundation, Poland Smart Innovation Norway and Odesa5T grant office from Ukraine.
The project is funded by the Council of the Baltic Sea States, Project Support Facility.
Co-funding is provided by ESTDEV - Estonian Centre for International Development.
